Tom
Wilson’s dream is to make it on the little screen…television. He
finishes graduate school and, with the help of his mentor, lands a job as
MC/Production Assistant on a small-time Chicago dance show Dancing
In America. As
Tom’s career takes off, he’s quickly confronted with the reality of
ratings, sweeps month, commercial time, and money. Along with Linda
Clifford, his new friend and floor manager, Tom faces the personal and
professional compromises he has to make in the industry. Bart
McCannus, the president of the production company, and the production
staff help Tom give up his ideals and head down the lucrative road to
selling out.

Betty’s
“husband” Frank barters her sexual favors to pay off his gambling
debts one too many times. Not willing to take the abuse any longer, Betty
threatens Frank with his hunting rifle. He pulls the barrel accidentally
shooting himself, but Betty is arrested for attempted murder. Although
the case is eventually thrown out of court, Betty can’t make bail and
spends five months in jail. Upon her release, Betty has no place to go and
no one to turn to until a sympathetic lawyer offers assistance. Betty’s
decision to accept a housekeeping job for a crew of traveling wheat
harvesters marks a turning point in her life. Afraid
and bewildered, Betty faces a tight-knit group of men unwilling to include
an emotionally crippled woman as part of their team. Through a series of
poignant encounters, both the men and Betty gradually learn to accept each
other as Betty learns to accept responsibility for herself. |

| This is basically The Eighth Circle with a female lead. All of the tough-gal flicks in the past decade bombed bad at the box office, so I decided to try it. Perhaps this one would too. |
Hi, Kit.
